For this week’s fashion post I wanted to talk about a jacket. But not just any jacket, a borg jacket. I bought one not too long ago, due to seeing them everywhere and really liking the collars against blue denim. There is also the fact that Australia is currently going through its Autumn/ Fall season. Regardless, since buying it I have worn my jacket anytime I get the chance to and so here’s to the Borg…
Basically for those who might have seen one but aren’t that sure what they are, essentially the Borg jacket is a jacket with denim or another material, with the collar and sometimes lining of the inside made of a faux fur. This style originated with the shearling coats/jackets popping up around the 1940’s (shearling being a similar idea, except with real fur lining) and whilst these are still being brought back in popular demand as well, the faux fur designs reflect the consciousness of being more considerate and responsible when it comes to the ethics of creating fashion.
Personally I liked the Borg jacket for this reason and also in part due to its versatility as a piece in my wardrobe. Denim can pretty much be paired with anything and because my one only has the fur around the collar of the jacket, it is much lighter to wear and can be used during slightly warmer days. The white fur creates a bit more interest visually from a regular denim jacket and there are also plenty of different colours around right now to choose from if you prefer something different from the classic blue.
Another element that I found when I started to wear the jacket was the sense of throwback, but in a way that’s kinda timeless. I look at these pieces and can very much see them staying in my wardrobe and being used for a long time to come. I think to be able to say that is a sign that you’ve made not only a fashionable purchase but a useful one too. So if you’re thinking of adding to your denim, check out the Borg jacket, it’s definitely a staple for this writer!
