"Mess" was a student short film I worked on with my fellow class mates Andrew Goode, Jack Mansour, Yuhan Liang & Haiyin Li in a film making class in the second year of my degree. I took on the roles of Production Manager and Editor for the project and was in charge of making a  production schedule for the two day shoot, keeping the production on track during filming as well as communicating to my crew members and our two cast members when we were breaking for lunch or changing sets/shots.

My other responsibilities were to ensure that we got through all the shots we needed, as well as allocated time for experimenting with shots or dialogue so that we had more to work with in the edit. When I edited the film, the intention was to make the relationship between Michael and Sam open ended so that the audience could decide and wonder if they were friends, lovers, brothers or any other relation. I edited this film on Adobe Premiere Pro for both video and sound editing and decided on minimal diegetic and non diegetic sound in order to build tension between the characters as well as an underlying sadness that they were parting ways.

In 700 Words or Less was my media film that I made in my final year of high school. It follows a girl who is just about to start her first day at a new school and is reading a letter about what to expect from a girl who is already there.

It's an advice giving, comedic, Wes Anderson inspired short, that explores the feeling of nervousness when starting somewhere new and the realisation that you aren't and don't have to face challenges alone.

Having drawn on The Grand Budapest Hotel pretty strongly, I wanted to incorporate some similar cinematic elements including: The symmetrical framing of shots, the wide colour palettes used, the longer pauses created in the edit to convey the quirky, almost absurdist humour and the use of music to bring it all together. I shot this at my then High School as it was the perfect setting, really diverse visually and it inspired me a lot when constructing the narrative from personal experiences being a student there.

This film was my first real experience creating a short and it was an amazing learning opportunity in planning, producing, editing and a many other media skills that were required from pre production to post.
