Shae Communications (Social Media Assistant) 

January 2020- March 2020

In early 2020 I began working as a Social Media Assistant for the social media marketing company Shae Communications. The company works with small to medium sized businesses who are looking for help and resources to build their social media platforms. Shae Communications offer different services such as social media management, social media advertising, and an audit of current social media channels with advice on how to grow and engage followers. 

My Role: 

-Managing the Shae Communications client Home Run Realty on Instagram. This includes engaging with followers, liking posts, responding to comments, and building the Home Run Realty following

-Copywriting social media captions, creating Instagram posts and scheduling these posts through the scheduling program Later

-Planning Instagram content

The Media Girl (Creator and Social Media Manager)

The Media Girl is a blog I created in December 2017 and has since evolved into a media platform of my personal work with The Media Girl Instagram page, The Creator Podcast series and the Alex Russell Media Website. I plan, create, edit and promote work for these projects on a weekly basis setting deadlines and goals for each. 

My Role

1. The Media Girl Blog 

-Planning blog pieces, writing, researching and editing them to be published

-Sourcing royalty free images to accompany the piece 

-Promoting the blog post and linking it on social media

2. The Media Girl Instagram 

-Writing and designing all of the graphics and planning their order on the Instagram grid 

-Scheduling posts several times per week and creating Instagram stories for highlights

-Building the account following by engaging with other pages, commenting, liking and responding to tags or mentions. 

-Creating Reels for Instagram through InShot

3. Alex Russell Media Website

-Designing the site on Wix 

-Writing all of the bios and creating links to seperate pages 

-Checking and maintaining SEO  

-Editing the site to be optimised for desktop and mobile viewing

The Rushed Behind (Social Media Assistant)

March 2019-July 2019 (5 months)

 

 

During my study at RMIT I was able to get the opportunity to work as a social media assistant for the RMITV produced Channel 31 television show The Rushed Behind in 2019. It is a footy discussion show where hosts Nick D'urbano, Chris Nice, Athos Sirianos and Brooke Varney analyse the football from the week, make predictions for the future and test their knowledge of AFL and AFLW.  

What I did: 

-Took photographs and videos of the cast and crew interviewing them during filming days to edit into content for the Instagram and Facebook pages 

-Wrote captions for social media posts to communicate information to The Rushed Behind followers including what is on, where they can watch the show and instructed them on the tv channels or catch up options online

-Planned Instagram content and created strategies on how to engage their social media following and increase the awareness of the show

-Analysed Instagram insights/ analytics to establish what peak times followers were active and what content was successful

-Designed Instagram stories, edited photos using the Instagram photo editing tools

What I achieved: 

-Applying for the show to be listed on IMDB and was successful in achieving this

-Created each of the cast highlights on the show Instagram page and all of the interview content for them

-Established the "Question time with...." Segment on Instagram allowing the audience to connect to the hosts 

-An increase in social media content from The Rushed Behind, increasing followers and maintaining their audience.

The RMIT Women's Football Academy  (Social Media Intern)  Jan 2019-May 2019 (5 months)

In 2019 I had the privilege to intern for five months as a social media intern for the RMITWFA during their inaugural season. Throughout my time at the academy I performed many tasks and honed my skills as a social media manager.

What I did: 

-Photographing and videoing players and staff during training and games 

-Editing content on Instagram using their editing technology enabling consistency 

-Managing the RMITWFA Instagram, Facebook and Twitter Accounts by updating game scores, posting photos and videos, creating Instagram stories and writing captions for posts

-Travelling to each game and capturing content for socials

-Monitoring Instagram analytics to study how engaged the RMITWFA followers were and strategising how best to appeal to them e.g posting at peak times in the day, tagging relevant people, utilising hashtags. 

-Writing articles and player bios on the RMITWFA website, interviewing staff, players and key stakeholders at the Academy 

-Designed and created Instagram Highlights on the Academy page representing certain milestones for the

academy including their first game, media opportunities and more

What I achieved: 

-Organised for a TV shoutout from the Channel 31 show "The Rushed Behind" before the Academy's first game

-Represented the RMITWFA through working in communications with the drive to celebrate, promote and highlight women's football and involvement through sport 

-Created visual and written content to help increase popularity and awareness of the Academy

-Communicated who the RMITWFA are, what they represent, the histories of staff and players and their legacy as a women's football academy

-Increased the social media following of the RMITWFA

-Built relationships with the RMIT Sport Community and fostered online support from the Academy community through engaging with audiences on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
